Statistics on test scores

These statistics are based on combined data from lecture sections L01 and L02. (Distributions of marks were very similar for the two sections.)

Here is a histogram of scores out of 59. Each digit in a bar of the bar graph is the last digit of a student's score. For example, the first line says that one student scored 58, three scored 56, and one scored 55.

Unofficial, approximate letter grade equivalents

These are UNOFFICIAL, and apply only to the mid-session test. We do NOT promise to use the same scale when we convert your overall course score to a letter grade.

None of the questions were really, really hard, but time pressure was a serious problem, so the minimum mark for a C- is a little below 50 percent.

SCORE OUT OF 59 APPROXIMATE LETTER GRADE EQUIVALENT

  47-58 A- or A
  38-46 B-, B, or B+
  28-37 C-, C, or C+
   0-27 D, D+ or F

Reminder: You must get at least 40 percent on the final exam to pass the course; to have a chance of getting C- or higher, you need at least 50 percent on the final.
