Statistics ...

There were 158 papers written. Below is a histogram of scores out of 57. Each * represents one student's paper.

55-56.5 ***
50-54.5 *************
45-49.5 **************
40-44.5 ***********************
35-39.5 *******************************
30-34.5 ***************************
25-29.5 **************************
20-24.5 ***************
15-19.5 ******
The top ten scores out of 57 were: 56.5, 56, 55.5, 54.5, 54, 54, 53.5, 53.5, 53, 52.5.

The average score was 35.7 / 57, or about 63 percent.
The sample standard deviation was 9.7 / 57.

The 75th percentile score was 41 / 57. (One quarter of scores were better than this.)
The median score was 35.5 / 57. (One half of scores were better than this.)
The 25th percentile score was 28.5 / 57. (One quarter of scores were better than this.)

Unofficial, approximate letter grade equivalents

These are UNOFFICIAL, and apply only to the mid-session test. I do NOT promise to use the same scale when I convert your overall course score to a letter grade.

SCORE OUT OF 57 APPROXIMATE LETTER GRADE EQUIVALENT

   44-57 A-, A, or A+
 34.5-43.5 B-, B, or B+
   25-34 C-, C, or C+
    0-24.5 D, D+ or F

Note that the cut-off between C- and D+ is less than 50 percent. This reflects the fact that it was hard for many students to attempt all questions on the test in 90 minutes. It should be easier to get at least 50 percent on the final exam.

Reminder: You must get at least 40 percent on the final exam to pass the course.
