Calendar description:
Commutation. Diode rectifiers. Fully controlled 3-phase rectifiers. Choppers, inverters, ac controllers. Single-phase switch mode converters: dc-to-dc, ac-to-dc, dc-to-ac. Circuit and state-space averaging techniques. Switching devices and magnetics.

• Thyristor Based Converter Topologies
• Transistor Based Converter Topologies
Other information:
• The course emphasizes an in-depth time-domain understanding of a variety of power converters.

Relevance to Industry/Research:
The course provides a review of the most common power converters used in high power industry applications (e.g. 1MW 3-phase six-step inverter which could drive an induction motor) and in low power electrical equipment (e.g. 300W Forward converter that could be in a PC power supply).
