Perhaps the most famous delicacy of Iran is
khaviar.
There are many other unique food items, such as mast (yogurt)
khorma (dates), nan (bread), etc.
1. BreakfastGenerally, hot tea, cheese and local bread is found in every breakfast menu, no matter where in Iran you are. In the northern provinces of Mazandaran and Gilan, asal (honey) and occasionally, cooked cold rice and fish may be found on the breakfast spread. In central Iran mast (yogurt) and khameh (soft cream) is somewhat common for breakfast. In the mountainous provinces, butter, yogurt and cheese is quite popular. In the southern and humid regions (Khoozistan and the provinces along the coast of the Persian Gulf) cheese and khorma (dates) are on the menu.In the cities and urban areas, breakfast foods are often industrially processed and packaged, much resembling the foods found in Western supermarkets. Iranians usually prefer to eat hot and readily made bread rather than the machine made ones. There are a lot of bread shops each specializing at a certain kind of bread, such as lavash, barbari and sangak, that provide hot bread from early in the morning. A typical breakfast in middle-class household in Tehran, consists of any combination of butter, jam honey, cheese, halva shekari (A kind of paste made of sugar, butter and sesame seeds) that is served together with milk, tea or coffee.
