FREE A5 SIZE GEORGIAN/JALALI CALENDAR PerCal version 1.04 Last Updated: December 1999 This is an updated release of an A5 size Georgian/Jalali (khorshidi) Calendar and System Note. This package is written to serve the needs of Iranians living abroad and want to have a look at the events in a Jalali (khorshidi) calendar while carrying on with ordinary Gregorian weekdays. The Jalali equivalents of all Gregorian days appears in Persian. To the best of my knowledge this feature is not implemented in any other available free calendars. Some of the main events that appear on ordinary Iranian Calendars are also included (this set of events may not be complete, e.g. events from Lunar year are not included). However, this set can be customized and personal edition of the PerCal can be generated easily. This is another feature that none of the other calendars have. The source code is written in Perl (ver. 4.x and 5.x) and a TeX file is generated automatically. I have used TeX (ver. 3.1415) and ArabTeX (ver. 3) to compile and display Persian characters. Please contact the Author for any comments, questions and bug reports. This package features: Flexibility: You can generate the calendar of any Georgian year. Customizing event set: You can customize it to add your personal events such as birthdays, main family events, etc. and print your personal edition. Multi-lingual output: You can add your own personal events in any language that can be TeX' ed and compile it using your favorite TeX system. Compatibility: You only need Perl and TeX (ArabTeX) installed on your system. This package can be ported to any Unix or PC system that has these tools installed. You may obtained them free of charge for personal use. Free: This software is FREE in FSF terms. You can use it, redistribute it, as long as not intending to sell it to a third party. Please read the COPYING terms. COPYRIGHT TERMS: Using and copying this package is permitted conditionally. Any use of this package in a commercial product is not included under this license. (yes, the 11th century Persian poet and mathematician whose Robaiyyat or quatrains is world famous.) All European (Georgian) calendars use the same calculations patented by Omar Khayyam! The name Jalali comes after Soltan Jalal-uddin Kharazmshah who was the king and ruler at that time. A year in Jalali calendar has 365 days and 6 hours. The extra 6 hours are added up together and make a leap year every 4 years. Jalali calendar uses horoscope months. Each month starts around 21st-23rd of Georgian months. The new year is the Equinox day in March. (a day in which the day and night have exactly the same length, this happens only on 21st of March and 23rd of September.) The name and lenght of months are: Farvardin (31 days) Ordibehesht (31 days) Khordad (31 days) Tir (31 days) Mordad (31 days) Shahrivar (31 days) Mehr (30 days) Aban (30 days) Azar (30 days) Dey (30 days) Bahman (30 days) Esfand (29 days, 30 days on leap year)
