"Qualitative Modeling and Simulation: Reasoning about Behavior
of Flexible Manufacturing System,"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- Proc. Int. Workshop on Computer Applications in Production
and Engineering, CAPE' 89,
Tokyo, Japan, October 1989, pp. 527-537.
- Abstract
- In this paper a qualitative model for describing the structure of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) is proposed and a qualitative simulator is designed to reason about its behavior. The method here removes some of the drawbacks of the quantitative approaches explained the references. The modeling object used here is the Extended State Machine (ESM) which is a special case of the Language Generator. The dual discrete and continuous qualitative reasoning is used to derive the potential behavior of the system. The qualitative simulation method QSDEDS introduced in this paper is general purpose and can be used to simulate any other discrete event dynamic systems (DEDS).

"Cognitive Collision Prediction and Path Planning of
Mobile Robots: A Qualitative Approach,"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- Proc. IEEE Int. Workshop on Intelligent Robots
and Systems, IROS' 89,
Tsukuba, Japan, September 1989, pp. 316-322.
- Abstract
- In this paper we introduce the preliminaries of qualitative collision prediction, collision avoidance and path planning of intelligent mobile robots by means of nonmonotonic temporal logic and qualitative reasoning techniques. In order to meet the on line limitations, the method of discrete iteration is exploited to produce the path without running the goal seeking algorithm again. The above techniques are implemented in a program. The paper demonstrates our approach through an example.

"Qualitative Controllers: Qualitative Approach to Design and
Diagnosis of Industrial Controllers,"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- Proc. 1989年度計測自動制御学会 学術講演会(SICE' 89),
Matsuyama, Japan, July 1989, pp. 1263-1266.
- Abstract
- In this paper we use the Qualitative Control (QC) formalism to detect, diagnose and reason about the malfunction of industrial controllers. The qualitative fault detector begins with a proper setting of the parameters in the form of rules describing the behavior of the system, the method searches for a faulty part, toggles the set points one at a time and decides upon the cause of the conflict In order discrepancy between them to explain the observed and predicted behavior.
