"Merging CASE Tools with Knowledge-Based Technology
for Automatic Software Design,"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- International Journal of Desision Support Systems,
vol. 18, pp. 73-82, 1996.
- Abstract
- An approach towards developing a Knowledge Based Software Engineering (KBSE) tool by merging a conventional CASE tool with the expert system technology is introduced. This is found useful in assisting human designers. Experimental expert systems CREATOR2 and CREATOR3 are introduced and applied to design of switching software. The CREATOR2 has the following features: representing software design knowledge, composed of design product knowledge and design process knowledge, using frame technology; and integrating knowledge based reasoning techniques with a SDL CASE tool. CREATOR3 is an extension of the CREATOR2 system. It enables one with additional design schemas for splitting a process, adding events, etc., and additional representation power, such as using pictorial elements and designers' comments in the frame representation. This leads to a uniform modeling and advanced reasoning environment for software design. Experiments on designing switching software are reported.

"Systematic Knowledge Acquisition for Expert Systems
Used For Design"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- World Congress on Expert Systems' 96, pp. 847-855,
Seoul, Korea, February 4-9, 1996.
- Abstract
- This paper describes a systematic acquisition method of design knowledge. Systematic knowledge acquisition is possible based on a systematic design knowledge structure in a systematic work process of well matured software development organizations. The basis of the work process, design and design information, cognitive scientific views are explained and verified quantitatively. Industrial practice on documentation is also evaluated, and the use of documents is rationalized. Consequently, a systematic way of using documents is explained.

"A Systematic Construction Method of Expert Systems Used
For Design"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- World Congress on Expert Systems' 96, pp. 577-584,
Seoul, Korea, February 4-9, 1996.
- Abstract
- This paper reports a systematic way of constructing expert systems for design purposes. The systematic way is based on systematic acquisition of design knowledge derived from the systematic acquisition method of design knowledge stemmed from a systematic design work process of well matured developers. The systematic design of data structure is described. Their hierarchical structure and unified representation are important keys. Next, systematic design of function structure is described. Their mono-functional hierarchical structure in pace with the hierarchical structure of data are important keys. As a result, the design of an expert system can be reduced to standard work procedures similar to design of software.

"An Intelligent CASE Tool Experiment for Switching Software,"
- Transactions/Magazines/Conferences:
- International Conference on Communication Technology (ICCT' 96),
Beijing, China, May 5-7, 1996, pp. 961-964.
- Abstract
- This paper reports on an automatic software design system used for a switching control system. The design knowledge is gained from diagrams produced by a CASE tool during the initial human design, is stored in each corresponding expert system unit, and is reused for reproducing the design. The design procedure consists of splitting a call process, inserting tasks and detailing. Various considerations for implementing the system in an Intelligent CASE Tool are discussed.

- Abstract

- Abstract
- This report proposes an Intelligent CASE (Computer Aided Software Engineering) tool featuring automatic software design. The system is composed of a conventional CASE tool and expert systems. The main idea is that human designers use a CASE tool for an initial design of a software system and, designers' design knowledge is automatically extracted upon designers' command and stored in an expert system. Reusing thus acquired design knowledge by the expert system, a similar software design can be performed automatically. As this system has accumulated enough design knowledge, the degree of automation progresses. As a result, software development can be easier and eventually reduce software development costs.

- Abstract
- A major topic in the field of network and telecommunications is doing business on the World Wide Web (WWW), which is called Electronic Commerce (EC). Another major topic is blending Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques with the WWW. In the Ex-W-Pert Project we have proposed an agent model for EC components that blends the traditional expert systems' reasoning engine with a multi-layer knowledge base, communication and documentation engines. Among the EC agents, in this paper, an implementation of a search agent is introduced in detail.
