FUNDING FOR ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING STUDENTS
It should be noted that all full-time applicants to the MSc and PhD programs are considered for financial assistance. Most of these funds come from Teaching Assistantships; TAs will be required to spend several hours per week working within the undergraduate program.
Applicants are strongly urged to seek out and apply for any available scholarships. Canadian students with outstanding academic records should apply for Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Postgraduate Scholarships. Students from Commonwealth countries should apply for Commonwealth Scholarships. Numerous graduate scholarships are also awarded by the University of Calgary's Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Financial assistance is also available from the department in the form of Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships. All applications for admission are automatically considered for these assistantships and a separate application is not required. Teaching assistantship duties require four to six hours per week from September to April.
Students not holding scholarships currently receive financial assistance totalling $18,000 to $22,000 per year. Holders of major scholarships may be eligible to receive supplementary awards of $3,000 to $10,000 per
year.
