GRADUATE STUDENT LIFE AT THE SCHULICH SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
One of the most difficult and important decisions you will make in your career involves a choice of a university in which to pursue your graduate studies. The areas of research, the facilities and equipment, the programs of graduate study and the courses offered in electrical engineering departments may differ considerably among the universities in Canada.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary has specialized facilities and expertise in the areas of microelectronics, telecommunications, digital signal processing, power systems, control, and instrumentation; biomedical engineering research is also a rapidly growing area in the department. Excellent facilities are available to support graduate research in these areas. Relationships with industry are a crucial component of supporting engineering research, and the academic staff in the department have actively maintained these contacts.
When entering a graduate school it is advantageous to become part of a research group where individuals are pursuing similar goals. In this way students can interact with each other and with academic staff on a regular basis to solve difficult problems.
